Cause of Colon Cancer
The Colon Cancer Survivors' Guide Inspired by an award-winning series of Esquire magazine articles on the author's own survival of colon cancer, The Colon Cancer Survivors' Guide shows how a person diagnosed with cancer stops becoming a patient and starts becoming a survivor. It draws on research, his and other survivors' personal experiences, and insights from health care professionals on how to help simplify and enrich life after cancer--from the first CT scan-follow-up appointments to the hallowed 5-year cure finish line. Above all, it offers advice on the healing of scars, both physical and emotional, how to leave cancer behind, and how to move confidently forward.
Radiology and Imaging of the Colon Radiology has seen dramatic technological advances in recent years. This multi-author text describes the current approach to colonic imaging and provides a detailed insight into likely future developments. The role of radiology in cancer screening is fully considered. In this context, particular attention is devoted to CT and MR virtual colonography, which, it is anticipated, will largely replace barium enema radiology and reduce the use of diagnostic colonoscopy. Modern cancer staging techniques, including PET scanning, are reviewed, and post-treatment follow-up strategies are examined. The imaging of inflammatory and traumatic conditions of the colon is described, as are current colonic interventional options, such as tumour stenting, colon decompression and vascular embolisation. In short, this book provides a comprehensive, well-illustrated and up-to-date review of colonic imaging.
Hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer - Hereditary nonpolypsis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) is characterized by an increased risk of colon cancer and other cancers such as endometrium, ovary, stomach, small intestine, hepatobiliary tract, upper urinary tract, brain, and skin. Individuals with HNPCC have about a 80% lifetime risk for colon cancer. Radiation proctitis - Radiation proctitis (and the related radiation colitis) is inflammation and damage to the lower parts of the colon after exposure to x-rays or other ionizing radiation as a part of radiation therapy. Radiation proctitis most commonly occurs after treatment for cancers such as cervical cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. Abdominoperineal resection - Abdominoperineal resection is surgery, typically to treat colon cancer, to remove the anus, the rectum, and part of the sigmoid colon through an incision made in the abdomen. The end of the intestine is attached to an opening in the surface of the abdomen and body waste is collected in a disposable bag outside of the body. Virtual colonoscopy - Virtual colonoscopy (VC) is a Medical imaging procedure which uses x-rays and computers to produce two- and three-dimensional images of the colon (large intestine) from the lowest part, the rectum, all the way to the lower end of the small intestine and display them on a screen. The procedure is used to diagnose colon and bowel disease, including polyps, diverticulosis and cancer.
